Embarrassed

...well...I've been trying to evaluate Joomla now for one week (all on LOCAL comp.)...with mounting frustration.

I started by using JSAS, which installed fine, but never let me into the Joomla admin panel (always comes back with the Login screen...).

Then I tried to install Joomla 1.0.13 onto an existing Apache2/MySql/Php setup - installed fine but again no login to admin possible.

Then I tried the same with XAMPP and installing VirtueMart onto it - same result - site itself runs ok (apart from the annoying 'enable cookies'), but no admin login possible).

I tried the same with (XAMPP) with Joomla 1.0.13 and 1.5 - same result ...site works but no admin.

Now I am trying RJS (which also installed without a hitch), site is up, but guess what?! No admin login...

Here the things I tried (actually too many to remember):

1. Tried different browsers (Opera, Firefox, IE - all latest)
2. Deleted cookies
3. Analysed site/install with JTS (said everything's perfect)
4. mucked around with Apache configs...
5. changed passwords manually in MySql
6. re-installed over and over again
7. cleaned every (?) trace of old installs of MySql, Php, Apache etc in registry, services, etc
8. Applied suggested patches...
9. Tried to run of 'pendrive'...
10. Tried under Vista....(chucks!)
11. Ah...nearly forgot....turning off, configuring, disabling firewall (Zonealarm)

System: XP Pro SP2

Things that DO work: Site, MySql, Phpmyadmin...

Well...don't know anymore what else I can do, apart from forgetting about Joomla and go back to OsCommerce....

Any suggestion would be VERY MUCH appreciated  Wink

Hi,

Given teh number of systems you have tried, the problem must lie on your pc..

So you aren't getting any errors - you just can't login to admin? can you login at the frontend as the admin user?

Sounds like a Browser cookies issue.. do you have the browser security settings set to high?

I suggest installing the Firebug extension for firefox and see if it gives any useful info for debugging..

Let us know..

Cheers

Hi John....

I guess I didn't even mention that, but....yes! I tried different computers...

I even did the RTFM bit - all my browsers have cookies enabled, all, from everywhere etc.

So I will try the Firebug bit and see what happens....but to me it seems too to be related to a cookie issue...I see the session appear in /tmp, but no cookie in my browsers...

I get no error messages (apart from the usual notice 'You have to login')

Thanks so far

Hi,

can you login at frontend?

Other things to try are to delete any files in w:\tmp and clear out the joomla session table..

Cheers

Thanks John,

something is definetely blocking cookies on this thing...I created a user account, but the login says: <localhost> Cookies must be enabled....

so...NO! can't get into frontend either... Huh

What the f can block the cookies???
